Who is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Canan Kocaman?

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Canan Kocaman is a specialist in Pediatrics and subspecialist in Pediatric Neurology. She completed her medical education at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1997. In 2002, she completed her specialty training in Pediatrics at Bakırköy Children and Obstetrics Hospital and her subspecialty training at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine between 2004-2007. During her compulsory service in Diyarbakır between 2008-2010, she worked as the only Pediatric Neurologist covering 11 provinces in that region. She organized newborn neurology courses and neuromuscular diseases courses for the training of pediatricians in the region. She has trainings on neurological follow-up of especially risky babies and has a certificate of general movement analysis training.
She is also the practitioner of Ketogenic diet therapy in Turkey, which is applied at Johns Hopkins University in the USA for resistant epilepsies, and has a special interest in resistant epilepsies. She is the founder of the risky baby and early intervention unit at Metin Sabanci Foundation for Spastic Children. As a member of the academic board, she organized congresses and took part in scientific projects. In 2010, she worked as a Pediatric Neurology Specialist at Istanbul Zeynep Kamil Training and Research Hospital, between 2010-2013 at Ümraniye Private Erdem Hospital, between 2019-2023 at Bakırköy Acıbadem Hospital, between 2019-2020 at Başkent University Hospital.

Since 2010, she has been working as a Pediatric Neurology Specialist at Hisar Hospital, since 2016 at Atakent Acıbadem University Hospital and since 2018 at Altunizade Acıbadem Hospital. As of 2022, she has been working as a workplace physician in MES OSB. Between 2018-2019, she worked as a guest lecturer at Kartal Gedik University Child Development Department. Since 2013, she has been accepting patients in her private practice. She received the title of Associate Professor as of February 2024. She has 11 international articles and 22 national articles in her field. She is the author of 3 national book chapters and 1 international pediatric neurology book translation. She has 48 oral presentations and poster presentations in various national and international congresses. Since 2020, she has been lecturing to medical students in English and Turkish departments as a faculty member at Okan University Faculty of Medicine. She is the online medical consultant of AutoTrainBrain, a neurofeedback application developed for learning disabilities and dyslexia in children, and is the responsible researcher in the TÜBİTAK research project on this subject. She also provides online consultation. She speaks English fluently.
